It's still at it
I had a recipe post all ready to go for today, and then I woke up this morning and realized that there was something more pressing to say. That book proposal that I was working on a couple of months ago, it did its job. Because of it, I get to write a second book(!!). I’m so excited about it that my eye started twitching uncontrollably this morning, and several hours later, it’s still at it. I can hardly see straight. When a Paul Simon song came on the radio over lunch, my eye actually twitched in time to the music. This is how excitement feels: like my face is falling apart.
Yes, the official announcement came today, in Publishers Weekly, and now that I can, I had to rush over here to tell you. The book is tentatively titled Delancey, and like my first book, it’s more a story than a cookbook. It’s about a marriage, in a sense: about a man and a woman and the restaurant that they, however uncomfortably, gave birth to. It’s about what we do for the people we love. It’s about growing up. And most of all, it’s about a small business that we made with our own hands, on our own terms, and the community that came with it, a life that I had no idea would be ours.

The manuscript is due next March, and then, if all goes according to plan, it’ll be published in the spring of 2013. That date sounds so impossibly far away that somebody could almost make a sci-fi movie about it. But I hope it comes quickly.
Until then, I think we’re finished with big announcements and big changes around here. (YES!) Let’s get back to normal life. I’ll see you soon with that recipe.

Yay! I can't wait to read it.
Congratulations, Molly! Can't wait to read it. Bon chance!
Yay! Can't wait!
This is great news. Now go drink some water. Maybe your eye's twitching just because you're dehydrated.
congrats on the book!
Molly -- I'm so excited for your new book! I savored your other book like a spoonful of icecream on a hot day -- I had to linger over it, enjoy it, and felt totally refreshed after reading it. I've been looking for other books like it, but to no avail. Now I have something to look forward to!
Sorry about your eye twitching. I get that, except in my lip. It has an Elivs feel to it, but I promise it's not attractive.
Yay!!!!! You are amazing!
I agree w/ Miss Heidi, drinking water always helps...
thumbs up molly!!
Congratulations! Looking forward to reading this story.
If you do include recipes, it would be very helpful to include a recipe index. I would have cooked more from A Homemade Life if it had included one.
Congratulations!! I'm already dying to read it!
Thank you, friends! I'm going to go drink a big glass of water now.
And Joy, did you read the book on a Kindle (or similar)? Both paper versions - hardcover and paperback - have recipe indexes, but I wonder if the electronic version doesn't?
Soooo exciting!! Congrats!!
velvet cupcakes
oh molly. i can't wait! xox
That's such great news! Congrats!
Your first book inspired me to start writing, then making it public on my blog, then quitting my job and diving in head first. I am excited as all get out for the second!
Wonderful! Looking forward to reading your Delancey story xo
I'm excited to read another one of your books. I enjoyed the first one a great deal and look forward to your articles in Bon Appetit, too. One of these days, I'll make to Delancey for a meal, too ... you're really not that far away!
yes...2013 does seem impossibly far away. I am sure the wait will be worth it though :0
Congrats! Can't wait to read it!
Thrilling! Can't wait to read the new book and hopefully make it out to Delancey someday myself!
Loved your first book. So excited for you!
Woo hoo! Congratulations!
Congratulations. I'm so looking forward for that book! I actually devored your first one!
oh, congratulations! i can't wait to read it - hurry up, 2013!
yeah!
Your first book is a regularly used cookbook in our house and there are buttery fingerprints all over the buckwheat pancake pages because we make them every Saturday. We named one of our lambs Berg in honor of your dad, too. Looking forward to more stories and recipes, Molly.
Wahooo! Looking forward to reading it. Congrats!
Hooray! Many congratulations, Molly! I can't wait to read it!

Your first book is truly something very special. I can't wait to read more of your story. Good news, twitchy eye or no. You are an inspiration indeed.

I love the way you write, and can't wait for the new book. Thanks for sharing the terrific news!
Awesome! Congratulations!!
Congratulations!!!
How lucky are WE?!
Tell your eye it can calm down (you'll need her) - we'll all carry the burden of extreme excitement.
congratulations! I love a cookbook with stories, so its a book you read, not just a reference for the kitchen.
Excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed your first book and look forward to reading Delancey.
Yea!!! My mother, who is not much of a reader, loved your book so much, she stole my copy (don't worry, I bought another) and keeps asking if you have another book. So, I'm thrilled--not only for myself, but because it will spur Mom to read more!
I can't wait to read Delancey! Congrats, Molly!!
Congrats! My copy of A Homemade Life is beat up, dog eared and maybe has a bit of banana bread batter between a couple pages. I cannot wait to dive into your next piece of work!
How wonderful! I've so enjoyed reading your musings on food and life these past few months since discovering your blog. Can't wait to read about your journey to Delancey!

Congrats Molly, can't wait to read your story and the story of your baby, your business!!! I love the name too
Hooray, looking forward to it! I just read A Homemade Life in February and March. So inviting, from the cover to the last page. Thanks for that.
Yes!! That seems an impossibly long time to wait.
Before I read your book, I was not a regular reader of this blog. Of course, after reading the book, there was no way I couldn't visit and see what you were cooking up.
I do look forward to the book because I think your writing is best to cozy up with, in book format, preferably under toasty warm covers with my head on a pillow. It's just not the same on a screen. :)
Oh, good for you! What amazing news. Can't wait to read it!
Congratulations! What a great way to start the day.
well, of COURSE they accepted it. fools if they didn't.
but still and all, HOT DIGGITY DOG!!!
well done.
Oh fantastic news! Congratulations! I can't wait to read it either! (I also get those eye twitches too, especially during finals in undergrad and grad school.)
Congratulations! That's so exciting and I'm incredibly happy for you.
Congratulations! Looking forward to reading it.
Fantastic news about the new book. About the eye, not so much. Hope the twitching stopped!
That is wonderful news! I love The Homemade Life and have bought copies for others rather than loan out my copy.
Congratulations. I will be impatiently waiting for your new book! Just saw you in Where Women Cook (I think I have the name of the magazine right) today...great article.
Just recently discovered your blog, and love it!
Congrats on the second book!! :) Very exciting!

Molly, I'm so, so elated to hear about this! Congratulations! Oh, man! I can totally understand how exciting this is.
Have I told you I just placed an order for a copy of your first book, "A Homemade Life"? Gosh, though the order was placed last Saturday, it seems to take forever to reach my doorstep in Malaysia!
The year 2013 seems somewhat distant. Haha! I'm sure I'll be one of the first to get a copy of it.
Take care. Keep up with the good work. Don't inspiring people, including me!
Thank you for reminding me that I heard Paul Simon on the radio yesterday You Can Call Me Al) and that it made me very happy.
More importantly, many congratulations! I'm thrilled for a second book from you.
Hey Molly, Congrats on everything! Your eyelid twitches because of trigger points in the jaw. You can fi it pretty easily though: http://sarahwagneryost.com/192/
How spectacular! May the journey towards the new book be filled with adventure and fair winds. May you feel the support of all your friends at your back. Do keep us updated.
Congratulations! Wishing you all the best :)
Looking forward to the new book.

This si wonderful news! i Can't wait!!!!!!
Exciting news! Congratulations!
Molly, congratulations! A new business, a new home, a new book - that's a lot of new in one month! No wonder your face is falling apart :) - I love that expression, I might use it myself in the future. Hope the twitching has stopped.
I can't wait to get my hands on your new book already! I devoured 'A Homemade Life' when I first got it and gifted copies to various members of my family. I even took to reading sections of it aloud to my husband (a non-foodie) who then proceeded to bake muffins for the first time in his life (it was pretty good for a first time, his only error was using yeast instead of baking powder/soda, sigh).
We're in Switzerland, close to some very fine cheese and chocolate but sadly far away from Seattle, Delancey and the Pantry. However, an old friend just moved to Seattle and if we ever make our way over, one (or several!) visits to your communal table are in order. I hope we make it there soon.
I read your first book about a week ago and its what introduced me to your blog. As someone whos just graduating from school and looking for what to do now, I'm incredibly jealous of the life you and your hubs have built. Having a restaurant, running a blog, and getting to write books? So fun! Anyway, just wanted to say congrats and good luck writing!!
Congratulations! I'm so excited to get to read it. And to see more of your new house (that sounds to be in greatly the same state as our new house). What fun for you!!
Congratulations! That's wonderful news. I just finished your first book and enjoyed it quite a bit. Good luck with everything, and I look forward to reading the new book.
Wow. You are doing great things. I continue to be impressed.
a thousand congratulations!
Looking forward to your book!
Molly- You don't know me but I'm a fellow foodie, blogger and lover of Orangette. Your first book is now a part of my permanent cookbook collection and I can't wait for the second. Congratulations and thanks for all the inspiration.
Michelle
How wonderful! I can't imagine how fantastic you must be feeling. Hooray!
yea! i can't wait:)
YAY! I don't know if I can wait that long! Alright, I probably can. SO pumped about the new endeavor(s)!
Congratulations!
Many congrats! How wonderful.
That is so fantastic! Congratulations, Molly! How exciting! I can't wait to read it.
What a beautiful news, Molly! Congratulations!!
Congratulations! Can't wait to read it--I loved, loved, loved A Homemade Life. Best of luck with your writing!
I can only imagine what it's like to see your own words in print - now it will be twice and that's the ticket. I read a cover piece in a cooking magazine (published out of CA) at Barnes & Noble yesterday, with a fun article and photos. continued success!
Great news! So loved your first book!
woo hoo!! i am thrilled for you, and for me, as i devoured your other book :) hope 2013 comes quickly!! much luck with your writing!
What wonderful news! The world will be a richer place with your new book in it. Someone once told me that if you try to make your eye twitch, willfully, that you won't be able to. Focusing on trying to make it twitch can actually cancel out the involuntary twitching. So weird! But it works for me. Hopefully by now you don't need this advice anyway. Good luck on the book!
This is such awesome news, congrats!! Your writing style is so gorgeous, I'm so very excited for your next book!!
You go girl! I first stumbled on your writing when I read your piece in Bon Appetit about the difference between loving to cook, and cooking in a restaurant. So dead on, and left me hungry for that tasty pizza. Perhaps I'll head to Delancy tonight just to share your joy!
Congratulations, Molly! Spring 2013 seems an eternity away but, of this I am certain, your book with be worth the wait!
Congratulations on the new book! I can't wait to read it!
Well. In a moment like this, there is simply nothing else to say but, congratulations!!!
Yay Molly!!!!!!
congratulations! totally looking forward to this next installment!
Thank goodness! Loved the first book so much, can't wait for the second!
Congrats Molly-that is so exciting. I will wait patiently :)
Looking forward to this, your newest story. Hopefully the eye twitch doesn't last the entire time you're writing ;)
congrats to you! this is wonderful news.
Molly, my grandmother and I can't wait to read it! I sent her A Homemade Life (her own copy, I can't part with mine) after I tore through it in a weekend, and she did the same. This time I'll just get two copies on the first trip to the bookstore.
Congratulations!! That's so exciting for you. I cannot wait to be one of its lucky readers :)
Molly, we are all so happy for you (as well as for ourselves)! I'm glad I'll have another one of your books on my shelf to turn to for delicious recipes and delightful stories. I've cooked half the recipes in your first book already, and I'm aiming to try them all before your next one comes out. Thank you for writing.
Congrats! I love "A Homemade Life" and am anxious to read your next book.
-Brenda

Great! Maybe I will find more answers to my questions and thoughts as well through your book! Good luck ! Can we pre-orer it now? :)
Congratulations, Molly! I'm eagerly anticipating your new book...in fact, A Homemade Life was one of the best books I've read in the past few years.
A couple weeks ago, while burning the candle at both ends and working on a similarly exciting project, my eye started twitching uncontrollably, too. I googled it - it's caused by stress, fatigue, and lack of sleep!
Congratulations and I can't wait to read it. I have your first book stationed next to my bedside so I can dip in any time - I so love your writing!
I ditto everyone else and also wanted to say that I liked that photo of the paint so much I made it my desktop photo. So pretty!
Congratulations! How exciting. Can't wait to read it!
congrats and i was also pleased to see your column back in bon appetit - i was sad that it was missing for a few months. it is one of the main reasons i continue to get the magazine!
Congratulations! How exciting!!! Now relax a little, you deserve it!
Congratulations! 2013 will be here faster than you think.

Cheers to that, Molly! Well done.
Wishes from CO.
C

Awesome! Wow, Molly, you really make me believe that we can follow our dreams no matter what! Can't wait to read it.
Congratulations on the book. Looking forward to the recipes and story.
hey Molly, congratulations!! That sounds wonderful and I'm excited to read more of your beautiful writing. Although I just discovered you recently, you're a great inspiration and I'm sure that you'll become one of the very few foodblogs which I return to regularily.
About the eye-twitching. I had that too, recently. It thought it was just because my life was and is too exciting and somewhat sleep-deprived. It actually lasted for weeks and started to become annoying - so, just in case you don't get less excited and your eyes continue to twinkle to good radio tunes, you might consider taking some magnesium supplements or pay attention to eat magnesium rich foods, becaus that's what made the twitching stop here. One week of supplements and it was gone.
Good luck to you and warm regards from Switzerland...
2013 is too far away!!!!
Hi Molly, your story is so inspiring. So true about writing what you love to write. I've just started a blog wonder what it would be like in say a year and to think you have been doing this for so long. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful stories.
Congratulations, Molly. I loved A Homemade Life. Can't wait for your second book!
Ha! 2013 DOES seem in the sci-fi realm still. Nevertheless, I am eager to read your book :)
I am really, really looking forward to your new book. I enjoyed the first immensely and am rejoicing there is a 'sequel.
Blessings!
Congratulations Molly, that's wonderful.
Hi Molly! I really liked your book and am enjoying your blog... Your new book will be most anticipated!
About that eye twitch, take a magnesium supplement which really helps with all kinds of muscle cramps and twitches. My own eye twitch will come on during times of stress or general depletion due to illness, pregnancy, excitement etc and I have found it to be relieved in 2-3 days of taking magnesium tablets.
Molly,
Congratulations on your upcoming book!
I just found your site and really enjoy reading it, especially the FAQ's. I will be back!
Thank you for being such an inspiration.
Congratulations! Will be pre-ordered as soon as it pops up on amazon!
Ahh So exciting!! Can't wait - and congratulations!
Congrats, Molly! Can't wait for number two.
Great news. I loved your first book and look forward to your second. My 3 daughters and I may road trip to Seattle this weekend. We hope to check out your restaurant - Delancey. Way to go Molly:)
Cindy
Molly...AWESOME news!!!
Congratulations!!!
This will be a book I will preorder when it's available. It would be fabulous if you came back up to Bellingham like you did via Village Books/Ciao Thyme and have another event like you did with your first book---it was a fab evening.
I've just finished reading A Homemade Life. I loved it ... pure and simple. I don't know who said this, but I once heard that the most sincere compliment one could ever give is to say with all sincerity, 'I miss you and you're not even gone'. That is the way you made me feel about my Dad ... don't know if it makes sense, but your reminiscences of your Burg were so heartfelt that they yanked on my heart ... big time. Oh, and the reccipes were pretty compelling too!
Reading about the restaurant and it beginnings will be different. I'm sure I'll enjoy it too! Good luck with the writing process!
hi molly,
i stumbled upon your blog a couple of months ago, and it just made my day, my week, and that month! it made me want to write. so, thank you for that. i'm new to blogging, and having so much fun doing it that i wonder why didn't do it sooner.
congratulations on your new book. my copy of 'a homemade life' is on it's way from amazon, even as i write.
in india, the twitching of an eye, like many other things, comes layered with meaning - the eye twitches only when it foresees change, and for the better. so here's to that!
Congratulations Molly! I am so excited to hear that you have another book in the works. Your first book is one of my favorites! I recommend it to everyone!
This is so exciting!! :D And I'm glad the book will come out in Spring 2013 because that's when I graduate from college..so reading your book would be a lovely way to start celebrating!
Loved A Homemade Life. Already looking forward to Delancy.
I loved reading A Homemade Life, and I can't wait to read this!
in an effort to NOT sound like a total cheese-ball-Molly-groupie, i just finished reading "A Homemade Life" and i'm sad to announce that i already miss you. you are a great writer and i LOVED your book. i am looking forward to book #2! congratulations on your achievements and finding your fit, your mate and your happiness in life!
