Some idea

So, Delancey is opening its doors on Wednesday, August 12, at 5:00 pm. I’m a little short on words to describe how I feel about that, but maybe this picture will give you some idea.
Brandon feels pretty much the same, I think. Maybe with a touch of queasy on top. Or maybe I’m just projecting. Hard to say.
Nah, actually, we’re very, very excited. This is the part that we’ve been waiting for. It’s been a long time coming, and though I don’t know that we’ll ever feel completely ready, we’re close. Or close enough. I just hope we get some sleep sometime soon, because apparently, I’m already having a hard time keeping my eyes open.
And we’re in the middle of a record-breaking heat wave. The restaurant has no air conditioning. I’m going to sit here and massage my temples for a while. That’ll help.
But hey, you know, today is the fifth anniversary of this blog. Five years. Five years! It’s pretty amazing. You’re pretty amazing, people! Thank you. You make me so happy. And it’s also our second wedding anniversary. That’s not so bad either.
Between now and the 12th, we’re holding soft opening dinners. My mother arrives today to lend a hand, and then my in-laws come next week. I might not be able to write a coherent sentence for a while, but I’ll have photographs for you. For sure.See you in a couple of days.
P.S. To those who have asked questions about various aspects (lights, desserts, etc.) of the restaurant: I promise, promise, to answer them soon. I could talk about that stuff all day.
P.P.S. For local readers: I’m so, so sorry to say that the soft opening dinners are sold out. We opened them first to family and friends, and then to a mailing list that Brandon has been compiling, and they went fast. We can hardly believe it. But if you would like to get information about future special events at Delancey, please send an e-mail to delanceyseattle (at) gmail (dot) com with “mailing list” written in the subject line.

To Molly and Brandon,
Best of luck, and many congratulations! What an amazing 5 years it has been... I hope to make it to Seattle very soon to visit what is sure to be an incredible restaurant!
yay, congratulations on opening! on anniversaries! all the mind-blowing support! and on keeping your sense of humor and wits about you (for the most part at least--which is all any of us can hope for, right?).
My word! So many amazing things. I'm so happy for y'all. And I think the sense of readiness you feel -- close enough -- is just the right amount. It's probably the right amount of all sorts of enormous things, from opening a restaurant to saying, "I do!" to having a baby.
i've been reading this blog for a long time (about four years), and i really really liked it when i found out that your blog AND wedding anniversaries fall a day after my birthday. it's a nice feeling. i wish i were in Seattle to visit Delancey, but my sister will hopefully eat some pizza for me. good luck!
and i left out the obvious, but congratulations all around!
you guys are the best. happy five years & two years! hip hip!!!
Congratulations on your double anniversary!
Sending you some good luck vibes from London for the opening of Delancey. May it be everything you hope for and more...
How exciting! Amazing and so deserved.
YAY!! Congrats you two silly, tired, amazing people!!
Smashing news, all of this is so exciting and I am sure Delancey will be a tremendous success! Enjoy the journey. Melanie
Huge Congratulations to you both. I am very excited for you. I will be there in spirit by having Pizza that night. K?
happy anniversary on the blog AND marriage! it's also my parents' wedding anniversary :) all the best with the restaurant - i'm sure it's both stressful and exhilarating!
Best of luck with the opening, I am glad the time has finally arrived! I can't wait to try it out on my post-PhD defense trip to Seattle. Yep, this little nerd all the way in Iowa has added you to her "things to do in Seattle" list :D
Good luck and stay cool! (Although Pizza oven + 100° weather hardly sounds like a recipe for that!)
Would you believe that I thought of you and Brandon right away when I read the news reports about this ridiculous heat wave ya'll are having? This is apparently what happens after reading your blog and your book. I would swear we are friends now.
I living vicariously, maybe one day I will be in the same place as you guys.
Can't wait to hear more about it. I was working at a restaurant during the opening and it is super exciting, completely adrenaline driven.
Have fun! And Buona Fortuna!
P.S. Molly, you wouldn't believe this but the random word the computer is asking me to type is "table". It is a sign! Never happened before.
Congratulations all around! I just finished the book and loved it. I look forward to trying some of your recipes.
I am so, SO excited for you both. Congratulations on your anniversary, the blog, and of COURSE Delancey. I can't wait to visit Seattle and when I do, Delancey is one of the 1st places I will want to go! Kick some ass!!!
So excited for you!! Happy anniversary - to the blog and to your marriage. I'm sure opening night will be fantastic. Can't wait to hear all about it!

Congrats to both of you--anniversaries, openings, everything!
Thanks for allowing us to play along.

You and Brandon are too cute.
My significant other and I are starting a business together, so your story is especially inspiring.

your little photobooth squares make me so happy.

So many things to congratulate you on - how exciting! Very much looking forward to hearing about the first few weeks of the restaurant. Hope the five year anniversary means there are many more years of blogging to come!
Congratulations! It certainly has been a life-changing 5 years.
opening a restaurant is akin to having a baby! i know that when i have opened mine ~ and many, i never felt ready, but opening night happens ~ and i just know that yours is going to be fabulous! i walk by occasionally and love what i see ~ a whole lot of love ~ which is truly the most important ingredient in a great restaurant! i can't wait! fire the oven!!!
While I'm thrilled for you both, I'm so disappointed that I'll be missing eating there next week when I'm in town. I was hoping it would be open, but I know how those things go. Best of luck!
Congrats and good luck. I wish I could be in Seattle to eat there soon!
good luck!!!
i wish you nothing but the absolute best.
Good luck, good luck, good luck - though I honestly don't think you'll need it.
and CONGRATULATIONS.
You inspire me every day.
How exciting! Congrats on both anniversaries too - hope you guys are able to celebrate a little in the midst of all the business. Wish I lived closer - my b-day is the 13th and pizza sounds delicious for a birthday dinner.

Congratulations both on the restaurant and the five year anniversary! i am just starting my blog about the industry, hopefully it will still be here in five years!

Looking back over my own life, big risks have reaped the highest rewards.
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary, the blog anniversary and having an opening date for the restaurant. We'll be over to eat with you as soon as we can.
Caroline and Andrew
so very exciting! astrologically speaking, Delancey is a Leo, & so will draw attention naturally & be very comfortable in the limelight... best of luck in the final stretch!
Hi Molly! Congrats on the popularity of the soft opening dinners! And your second anniversary! We're about to have ours as well! Hey, I saw the Delancey Twitter about grinding down the course grey salt... how about putting a bunch of it in the food processor and making the grains smaller that way? Would that work? You've probably thought of it already though... Take care!
Eeeeek! So exciting. Only the BEST wishes for a smooth and fabulous opening!!!
Happy anniversaries.... :)
Congratulations! On all of it...I wish I could be there.
WAHOOOOO!!!! How exciting! Can't wait to hear reports of the grand opening!
Congratulations on your double anniversary!
May Delancey be everything that you hope for and so much more. Good luck for the grand opening.
My sister's birthday - now I will always remember. Wish I could be there that day but will ASAP!
And THREE congratulations!
Sending many good wishes. I'm sure Delancey will be a wonderful success--and that you'll both survive and happily celebrate many double anniversaries!!
But...I'm scratching my head wondering why...even without record breaking heat this summer, wouldn't a small wood fired pizza place want air conditioning...even in Seattle??...even just a small in the wall unit?? I'm swooning even as I imagine what it must feel like.
this is just adorable. and congratulations!
Oh, wow. Reading your last few posts, I've been thinking when you gets through this - facing your fears head-on and working so hard - you're going to feel like a warrior. Invincible. And I already see it in the change of tone and total openness of this post.
A hearty congrats x3 to you and Brandon!
What a horrible time for 103 degrees! Clearly, it's not stopping you, though. Happy anniversary, Happy blog anniversary, Happy Restaurant Almost Open. Stay cool.
happy happy all around! big congrats and i look forward to a trip out west to taste it all in person! sounds as exciting and as stressful as a wedding!

Congratulations on this very exciting venture. Best of luck to you. I can't wait to hear how the dinners turn out.
Sending some cool breezes your way.

Yaay! Congratulations, Congratulations and Congratulations! ;-)
Congratulations to you both! My husband and I opened Victrola just shy of our second wedding anniversary. Creating a business together was one of the best things we ever did! I love reading your posts about starting Delancey..it brings back such fond memories for me. We will look forward to having a meal at your place when it opens.
Congratulations on both anniversaries AND the restaurant opening! So many happy things to celebrate. Best of luck!
I'm so excited for you! I have already made my aunt in Seattle promise that we will go next time I visit (she lives quite near). Best wishes!
So awesome. Congrats for everything. See you at Delancey next week....
Congrats! I've been following the progress of your restaurant and love your style. I can't wait to see more photos and I'm especially excited to see what kind of art you display.
we were in ballard this past weekend and looking for delancey, but couldn't find it. now we know - and looking forward to the grand opening. YAY!!
Warmest wishes on all anniversaries and enjoy with those you love. Your mother berry pound cake continues to win fans and it is so very fine to watch someone make dreams come true - through hard work.
Good luck! I can't wait to visit Seattle again so I can eat at your new fab. restaurant.
Congratulations - on the date for your opening, the blog-anniversary as well as yours and Brandon's anniversary! :)
Congrats on the anniversaries!! I've been enjoying the blog for a few years and the time has flown by. Looking forward to hearing more about the restaurant!
Congratulations! Congratulations! I wish you the best for what is sure to be nothing short of an amazing experience. Remember, you will sleep much MUCH later, but nothing is more rewarding than following your dream. Cheers!
I suspect the restaurant will be a huge success. I was through Seattle earlier this month and wondered where the place was and whether it was open yet. Now i will have to come back.
Congratulations! This is so exciting! Love the photobooth photos--captures it perfectly.
Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations! Your cup runneth over?!
Congratulations and Happy Anniversary.
Bonne Chance! I hope the opening goes well; thankfully it's cooling down so AC or lack of it shouldn't be an issue. I'm hoping to try it when I'm in Seattle visiting my daughter, as long as you offer vegetarian options. :) P.S. Read your book and loved it then I made my dad read it and he loved it too.
Cute photos!!
Congratulations and best of ALL possible luck! I've only just recently begun following your blog, but it's quite inspiring and captivating, as I'm sure your restaurant will be!
Congratulations on so many anniversaries, and now, another for in future!
Much Success! I wish I weren't on the opposite coast so I could visit Delancey!
Happily awaiting more news and photos... whatever you can send our way! Remember: BREATHE! (Even more important than sleep, I think?)
:)
"Circe"
Oh Molly! Congratulations to you both on both anniversaries, and the opening of Delancy. I wish I lived on your coast becuase it'd be a much quicker trip to come for dinner! Thanks for keeping us updated- all the best to you!
Your new restaurant just adds to my ever-growing list of reasons to visit from Vancouver.
I should feel luck that I've got a table for next Thursday then! Happy blog-aversary and wedidng anniversary! You've had a couple of exciting years.
So glad you're back! I've been checking in to your blog periodically and was so happy to see you've made it thru and are writing again. Congratulations on the restaurant. Trust your instincts on being in the kitchen but please, please don't stop writing! I only wish I lived close enough to try your restaurant...I'm jealous of all the readers who'll be able to. Happy Anniversary on all counts
It's sounds like your going to have a baby :). In a way, you do. You can never be ready as much as you try, and you learn so more on-the-job than any preparation you might make ahead.
So happy to hear about your success in selling all the seats to the pre-opening dinners. But that was expected...
Hurray for you! My husband and I are in the biz...opened our doors in 2005 and I know what a whirlwind it is...greatest luck to you both!
Big time congratulations! What a journey this has been and a lovely road still stretches out before you.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing the journey with us.
I'm happy I popped in. I was wondering about the heatwave... who would ever think you'd need AC in Seattle?? I'm so happy to see that all is moving along. I'll have to send my sis to Delancey to check it out until I can manage to get up there for a visit. Cheers!!!! & Congrats on your anniversary too... we just celebrated #14 :) It's a great thing to be in love, isn't it?
isn't it amazing when the moment finally comes after so much sweat, blood + tears go into something? best wishes for the freshness + fervor of a precious beginning. I made the potatoes with salsa verde and they are divine. thank you
Happy 5 years! Happy 2 years! And congratulations on the opening of Delancey!
congratulations x3!!!
How very exciting! Congrats, can't wait to visit.
Molly,
Never commented on your blog before, but congrats!
I'm a relatively new reader, as I just randomly picked up your book at the local B&N and began reading a few months ago.
One word...breathtaking.
You summed up all I have felt about food in my life. It left me laughing randomly in an airport, crying while reading late at night in bed, and often just smiling to myself at random points during my day only to have my husband ask "you ok?" I had to read slowly so I could savor each page.
The book has earned it's spot on my kitchen counter with my other books, and it's a spot I hold dear.
Thank you. Thank you for being real and connected to what you do. It's a true inspiration in life :)
And congrats on your anniversary and restaurant. My husband and I took our honeymoon in Seattle; it's truly an intoxicating place. Hope we can visit your niche there soon!
-Alisha
hi molly and brandon, congrats! break a spoon :). wishing you nothing but the best on your opening day. you have so many rooting for your success and happiness from near and far.(n.c.p. on flickr)
Happy five years!
That's so exciting and thrilling about Delancy's opening. I'm sure it's terrifying but thrilling.
I just finished "A Homemade Life" -- it is possible to savor something while gulping it down too?!? If so, that's what I did with your delightful book.
We live in Boston, but we'll be sending out happy opening wishes to you and Brandon cross-country. To use an over-used Boston simile, Delancey sound like the place where everyone knows your name.
happy anniversary + happy delancey opening, you two. i think you're the tops! one day, i , too, will join the crowds and sit in a beautiful green chair and have a dreamy meal. can't wait. until then, cheers! xoxo
WOW. Congratulations on all counts!!! Amid all the chaos of opening a restaurant, I hope you can find a moment to take a deep breath, and just REVEL in all that you have accomplished.
so many congratulations to throw your way
and sighs of relief that you are both seemingly in one piece and your sense of humor in tact
All the veryvery best! 5 years, what a wonderful accomplishment. I wasn't here from the beginning, but perhaps the last 2-3 years. It has been such so much fun following your travels/trails. Saluté to the next 5 year!
Congratulations :) Good luck with everything!
Happy anniversaries! I'm excited because I'm visiting Seattle the week after your opening, which means I'll have to visit for a pizza! Yay!
Yeah! I just found you back and the restaurant has an opening date. NOW I can plan our trip to Seattle - I actually have been waiting to hear so we could stop by. But my big question is this: did Iris ever get around to designing her pizza for you? I am excited to hear...
So glad you're back, there are many food blogs out there but few capture the essence of why I like to cook and inspire me at the same time. Your restaurant will be on my "must hit" list next time I'm in Seattle, I'm sure you'll be booked for quite some time! Happy launch!
Good Luck!
Good luck!
YAY!! congratulations! and good, good luck. we'll be thinking of you!
Congratulations...5 years, that's great. And happy wedding anniversary, too. We love following you. The restaurant opening feels so exciting, all the best for this!
Hurray!! Happy Opening!!!
Congratulations and happy days ahead!!
Made your roasted potatoes with salsa verde last week - yum.
Boyfriend's mother is in love with your book and making all kinds of recipes from it. Thanks! ;)
I was in Seattle this past weekend and checked to see if you were opened yet - seems I just missed your opening - I am sure it will be fantastic - break a leg!
I just picked up your book today...can't put it down. I'm new to your blog...best of luck to you with your new restaurant and congrats on 5 years of blogging!!
Congratulations and Good luck !!!!!!!!
We are so excited to have you come to our little neighborhood. My husband and I have peeked through your windows a number of times to keep updated on the progress. We're thrilled you're finally opening and wish you all the success in the world!
Hello Molly! Your blog has inspired me to start my own blog, and I'd love for you to check it out! www.SundaysWithGeorge.blogspot.com. I am striving to have a blog that is as professionally done as yours. I take a photo for each post and put it up weekly. Thanks for sharing your hard work and talent with us!
Love, Shannon
Congratulations on your opening, and your wedding anniversary! I hope Delancey is a huge hit... I wish I lived in the area so I could give it a try!
Congratulations on your blog birthday, your anniversary and now the opening of your restaurant! Good luck, Brandon and Molly!
I've been really enjoying this warts-and-all account of opening a restaurant. Despite the trials and tribulations, you stillmake it look worth doing. Best wishes!
Best wishes to you! You look very happy and excited about it.Good luck on your opening!
I just received your book as a birthday present and I have been savoring it bit by bit! I have been enjoying your articles in Bon Appetit for years and am thrilled to find your blog! Your writing reminds me so much of Laurie Colwin, (whose books I read over and over!) Good luck with the restaurant I'm looking forward to hearing more about it and hopefully getting there one day!
Happy anniversary on the blog and marriage. Best wishes.
Hi Molly,
I love reading your column in BonApetit, can't wait to try the kale and pasta recipe!
Best wishes,
Cara

Congrats all around. Looking forward to hearing how things progress for you.
Hey Molly
Just finished your book A Homemade Life and you can't imagine my surprise when I saw the bread and chocolate recipe and the radishes and butter recipe. My mother is French and I used to spend summers with my grandparents in a little French village near Poitiers and every day at 4 o'clock my grandmother would give us "gouter" which was a chunk of fresh bread from the baguette we had just bought from the boulangerie across the street and a piece of dark chocolate. I've tried to replicate it for friends but it's very difficult without the right bread. Even bakeries who claim to bake "French" bread never bake it long enough and it's never as crispy on the outside or as full of holes on the inside as the geunuine article is. Enjoyed your book very much and many of the French recipes were very familiar to me. If I'm ever in Seattle I will definitey come to your restaurant. I hope you are able to cook the food you want there with the horrendous mainstream food supply that is available to us Americans.
Molly! I had a pre-thanksgiving party with some vegetarian friends and the bread pudding from your mag column totally saved the day. It was a huge hit. Glad to see that your back and finding balance (why is that always so hard to do?)
